18 Mar Summer Cup 2017 Penned in for August Bank Holiday
In a similar vein to other news this week – the NDSL under-13’s trip to Futbol Salou for the Nordic Challenge Trophy – we are keeping to news closer to home, with the announcement of the 2017 Summer Cup.
Indeed, for the fifth year running DB Sports Tours will be running the Summer Cup – our longstanding competition created and ran by our company. As ever the Summer Cup will be held at Terenure’s V.E.C. Sports Grounds taking place over the August bank holiday (5th – 7th).
The Summer Cup is an annual youth football tournament organised by DB Sports Tours which looks to bring together teams from all over the island of Ireland. Last year over 120 teams competed across four age divisions, with that number expected to increase for the 2017 edition.
With teams representing both the Schoolboy Football Association of Ireland (SFAI) and the Northern Ireland Football Association (NIFBA) this tournament is truly all-inclusive and truly unique.
The competition looks to serve boys in six age groups: under-9, under-10, under-11, under-12, under-13 and under-14. Saturday August 5th will see the under-9’s competing in five vs. five matches, as well as the under-12’s competing in nine vs. nine matches.
Sunday meanwhile sees under-10’s and under-11’s compete in seven vs. seven matches. Finally Monday sees a new section added – under-13’s and under-14’s take part in 11 vs. 11 matches.
DB Sports Tours Co-Founder David Berber spoke effusively about the growth of the Summer Cup, and it’s importance to the company five years on since it’s inception: “This event has grown year on year and unfortunately last year we had to turn teams away, this year we will add two new 11-a-side age groups and we are also considering a girls section.”
