Metropolitan Girls League Under-13’s Head To Futbol Salou

The growth of women’s football in Ireland has been steadfast in recent years, with Stephanie Roche’s spectacular goal putting Ireland truly on the map for women’s football. However, the foundations of Irish women’s football are just as prosperous as the senior game. Today we have some exciting news regarding Irish women’s football.

We have arranged a football tour for the Metropolitan Girls League (under-13 side) to travel to Barcelona, and train at our European training base at the Futbol Salou Sports Complex from April 17 – 20. Readers of our blog will know of our strong relationship with Futbol Salou, the football training centre in Salou, headed by former RCD Espanyol coach Albert Vinas.

At Futbol Salou the methods of ‘technifutbol’ are taught, with possession and skill enhancement all encouraged by the group of UEFA A Licence coaches onsite. The MGL group will travel to Spain to train at Futbol Salou, and stay at the picturesque Cambrils Park and Resort, where all their holiday facilities will be close by.

The MGL group will play four friendly matches on this tour; with the MGL group split into two, so each team will play two matches each. Playing CF Reus Deportiu and Tancat A will be big tests for both MGL sides in their first games on April 18, while the second matches against Morell A and Pallaresos will be of an equally tough test on April 19.

It is in these matches against Spanish opposition where their training will be put to the test. On April 19 the MGL group will be put through their paces when given a ‘1st Masterclass’ coaching session at the Futbol Salou Sports Complex. It is in this coaching session where the group will be shown the methods to play a continental style of football, perfect for matching up against the Spanish opposition.

It won’t be all work and no play on this football trip though, there will be time for fun too. On April 17 when they arrive, the group will go on a stadium tour of the Camp Nou, FC Barcelona’s behemoth and world famous stadium, which houses just under 100,000 people, often selling out for their biggest matches each season.

Should you wish to book a similar football tour for your side – whether they are a boys or indeed girls side – just contact the office by visiting this page. Elsewhere make sure to keep up to date with all company news by checking out the regularly updated blog here.
