JOE REDMOND JOINS PROFESSIONAL RANKS

IRISH TEENAGER JOE REDMOND IS THE LATEST BLUES ACADEMY PRODUCT TO BE GIVEN A PROFESSIONAL DEAL.

The 18-year-old centre-half has today signed a one-year contract, with a one-year option, at St. Andrew’s.
Redmond grew up in Dublin and played for junior clubs Crumlin and St Joseph’s before being invited for a trial at Blues during the 2015/16 season.
He joined the full-time ranks as a scholar in July 2016, but suffered a serious knee injury early into his fledging Blues career which left him sidelined for several months.
The former Tallaght School pupil bounced back to make 11 appearances for the Under-18s in 2016/17.
He featured regularly again last term, playing 19 games, including five of the team’s six FA Youth Cup matches in their run to the Semi-Finals.
The Republic of Ireland youth international also made the step up to the Blues Development Squad midway through last season, figuring nine times for Richard Beale’s side in 2017/18.
Redmond follows in the family footsteps of his three older cousins, the Quinn brothers, who have all played professionally – Stephen (Sheffield United, Hull and Reading), Alan (both Sheffield clubs and Ipswich) and Keith (Sheffield United).
