21 Apr Irish Youth Keeper Fills in For Wellington Phoenix for Galicia F7 Cup
Readers of busy blog will likely have read our story about Wellington Phoenix travelling to Europe for an elite football tour. The New Zealand side will take part in the Galicia F7 Cup, playing against both FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.
With such high level opponents matched with a pre-tournament training camp at our Futbol Salou training base, this is one of our finest – and most ambitious – football tours to date. And that’s without mentioning the accommodation they will be staying at during the pre-tournament camp, the picturesque Cambrils Park and Resort.
Unfortunately however for all our skin-tight preparation no one could have foreseen the circumstances in which Wellington Phoenix’s goalkeeper would not be able to travel to Europe. With that we have work tirelessly to provide a requisite solution.
Together with St. Joseph’s Boys AFC and their under-13 DDSL Premier Manager Dale Fitzsimons, we have been able to find a player to fill the gap for the Kiwi Australian A league side. The goalkeeper of the aforementioned St. Joseph’s Boys AFC Dylan Kane will travel from Dublin with his father and grandfather, meeting up with the Wellington Phoenix outfit for the Galicia F7 Cup.
Joining up with Wellington Phoenix, Dylan Kane will get the opportunity to test his goalkeeping abilities against the world’s true elite youth players, all the while in an the exotic landscape of Northern Spain.
We see this news as a fine and home-grown solution to an international issue. This is a fine example of our vast array of contacts within Irish youth soccer coming together with our new plans to expand our football tours worldwide.
We would like to thank Dylan, his family and everyone at St. Joseph’s Boys for helping us provide Dylan with this opportunity, as well as Wellington Phoenix for welcoming Dylan to their team for the Galicia F7 Cup.
