Gavin Kilkenny Joins AFC Bournemouth

It has been a landmark year here at DB Sports Tours. We oversaw another stellar Summer Cup, for one. We saw a number of our players progress in their careers; such as Darragh Leahy, Adam McDonnell, and latterly Ruairi Patton.

However, the news seems to never stop – this week we can confirm we are working with a new player Gavin Kilkenny who this week signed with the English side AFC Bournemouth. Kilkenny leaves St. Kevin’s Boys to begin his professional career with the South Coast club, which are now cementing their status as a Premier League regular.

Kilkenny joined St. Kevin’s Boys in 2006, subsequently spending ten years at the club famous for nurturing Irish talent throughout the decades. Kilkenny enjoyed a successful career as a young football with the Whitehall based club.

Gavin joined up first with the under-7 side at St. Kevin’s Boys, and stayed right through until the under-16’s for the 2015/16 season. There was notable success in the St. Kevin’s Academy Easter Cup for Kilkenny winning twice, both in 2012 and 2013. The pinnacle of Gavin’s St. Kevin’s Boys career came in 2013; along with the St. Kevin’s Boys Academy Easter Cup he found success as they won the DDSL Premier League.

Away from club success Gavin broke into the international youth sides too; making his debut in 2015 when the under-15’s took on The Netherlands. Later that year he was victorious with the Ireland Under-16 Development squad in the Mayo Cup. In 2016 he took another step forward, getting capped for Ireland’s under-17 side in a match against Slovenia.

Prior to signing on the dotted line with AFC Bournemouth Gavin attracted interest from a number of English league sides, wherein he went on trial with clubs such as Sunderland, Stoke City, Brighton, Fulham, Sheffield Wednesday, Coventry City.

Following signing with AFC Bournemouth Gavin was quick to thank all who helped him get to where he is today, citing: “Alan Caffrey, Ken Donohoe and everyone in St. Kevin’s for everything they did for him during his 10 seasons at the club”.

Elsewhere there were kind words from David Berber – his new agent and DB Sports co-founder, who helped get the deal done, paving the way for Gavin to achieve his dream of playing football in England.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be representing Gavin Kilkenny as there was many agents trying to capture his signature. I’ve seen him play over the last number of years, especially when he excelled at the Kennedy Cup”, said Berber.

“I’m delighted to be representing him. He’s an absolutely technically gifted kid, and has a really bright future ahead of him. I think he’s at the right club to progress”, Berber said effusively.

Everyone at DB Sports would like to wish Gavin the best of luck as he sets out on a new chapter in his burgeoning career as a footballer in England. For more information on Gavin’s progression, or indeed many of the footballers we represent, keep an eye on our busy blog here.
