Four DB Sports Players Included In Irish U17 Squad

Ireland’s under-17 squad has been announced by Head Coach Tom Mohan ahead of the upcoming European Championship qualifiers to be played next week. The young Boys in Green will play three games in three different counties.

The three opponents each offer a fine individual test and and will need Ireland to be on the top of their game to succeed. The teams which they will face are Gibraltar (to be played in Athlone Town’s Stadium), Faroe Islands (to be played in Galway’s Eamon Deacy Park) and Scotland (to be played in Longford’s City Calling Stadium).
Within the squad named by Head Coach Tom Mohan four players are represented by DB Sports: Darragh Leahy, Trevor Clarke, Jay Lunney and Zac Elbouzedi.

Of the four players to feature who are represented by DB Sports each are well on their way to stardom having many feats between them. Darragh Leahy currently plies his trade for St. Kevin’s Boys in Dublin for the DDSL Premier side. The past twelve months have been a whirlwind of success for Leahy, having won a domestic treble last season which included the DDSL Premier League, the League Cup and the All Ireland. He also has plenty of International experience competing against the mighty Dutch, Croatia, Hungary, Serbia and Malta. Leahy has been tipped by many for bigger things in the very near future.

Trevor Clarke is Leahy’s old team mate at St. Kevin’s Boys and Clarke’s résumé is as extensive as it is impressive; not only has he won three All Irelands, two League Cups and a DDSL premier title as well as a host of International caps.
Jay Lunney is another DB Sports named in the Republic of Ireland U17 squad. Lunney, who previously played for Malahide FC now lives and plays in England for Preston North End. Like both Clarke and Leahy, Lunney’s past year has seen his development move quickly. Already this season Lunney has twice featured for Preston’s U21 in games vs. Rangers FC and Fleetwood Town. Lunney has a considerable history representing the Republic of Ireland at international level. To date Lunney has 11 youth international caps in illustrious games such as the Dutch, Croatia, Hungary, Serbia, Malta plus many more.

Another ex-Malahide FC player who is currently represented by DB Sports was named in the squad – Zachary Elbouzedi. Elbouzedi is another young star currently playing in England for West Bromwich Albion, a club who in recent years have become known as a hotbed for developing many young stars. In the past Elbouzedi has been capped for the Republic of Ireland in 11 games, including games against Serbia, Switzerland and Estonia. Elbouzedi is a versatile player who can play in a multiple of positions and is known for having a particular eye for goal – many fans will hope this will continue in these vital upcoming qualifiers.

Everyone at DB Sports wishes the whole team the best of luck in the upcoming games. For more information on kick off times visit the FAI’s official website.
