Earlier this year we brought to you the great news that Darragh Leahy had signed a two year contract extension at Coventry City. Leahy (18) has been given his chance to impress this season, having been featuring for the senior side as they gear up for a season in the highly competitive Championship.

Having spoken to the Coventry Telegraph recently, Leahy exudes confidence, but appreciates the opportunity which he has been given this summer.

“I never expected anything like this,” said the Dubliner, who has earned rave reviews for the way he has acquitted himself along with all the other teenagers who have stepped up this summer.

“It’s amazing the opportunities you get at this club. One or two players have got injured and you’re straight in and it’s a question of taking your opportunity and grasping it.

“I have given my best and all I can do is see what happens. I was playing in the Under-18s and FA Youth Cup last year and now I’m playing against players who were in the Premier League last season, so it’s a big step up.

“It was a great experience playing against so many international guys at Norwich, especially the Irish boys who played in the Euros; great to test myself.

“You just have to take it as it comes. You look at the names on the teamsheet and get excited about facing these players and I really enjoyed it.

“At the moment there are two players in my position injured which is good for me and I will just enjoy it as long as it lasts.”

“I thought I did OK. It’s the biggest away stadium I’ve played in. It feels a lot bigger than it looks on TV and it’s really nice.”

Clearly, Leahy is maturing as a player and a person at Coventry City, with a big season ahead for the young Irishman, looking to make his mark at the West Midlands club. You can read the full article here.
