11 Mar DB Sports Tours Sends Irish Clubs to the Mare Nostrum Easter Cup
The Mare Nostrum Cup will be a three day football tournament held at the Futbol Salou camp in Spain from March 25 – 27. Three Irish teams will be competing in the tournament in two separate age-groups.
Cherry Orchard from Ballyfermot, Dublin, will compete in the under-10 section of the Mare Nostrum Cup, facing among others the Tecnifutbol Academy Team, which is based at our Futbol Salou Camp. Other teams in their group in the under-10 section include Spanish sides C.E. Manresa A and AEM.
Meanwhile, in the under-16 section two Irish clubs will be competing: Knocklyon United, and Templeogue United, both clubs of course based in South Dublin. Templeogue United will take on Derby County among others in one of the tournament’s standout fixtures, while Knocklyon’s group includes C.D. Benicasim and U.E. Sant Andreu.
As many will know, DB Sports Tours specialise in the creation and execution of sports tours and team trips, with the key objective of player development and fun for all players who attend. Our Futbol Salou camp is the perfect example of how effective our team tours can be to all participants in their football development.
The tournament is in conjunction with our Futbol Salou camp, ran by DB Sports Tours affiliate Albert Vinas, looking to develop young Irish footballers among players from across of Spain and around Europe.
Vinas is a Spanish coach who has a wealth of knowledge in elite youth coaching, having spent 20 years developing some of Europe’s young stars of today. Catalan football philosophy has been engrained in the great sides of today, notably Barcelona who have dominated the Champions League, the elite of club football, for years.
Having previously coached at Spanish La Liga stalwarts RCD Espanyol, Vinas is the current Director of CE Futbol Salou sports complex. His methods look to improve the technical ability of young players, coaching small sided games, mirroring the coaching techniques of the likes of FC Barcelona.
Teams will fly out on March 24, with the tournament stretching the next three days, with the return journey on March 28. Accommodation will be based at the picturesque Cambrils Park Resort. The Cambrils Park Resort is based in Salou, Spain.
Robbie Maher of Park Celtic previously spoke of his happiness with the quality of the facilities at the Cambrils Park Resort: “I’m very happy with the facilities at Futbol Salou and also at Cambrils Park. It was a great time to hold the tournament for the kids. DB Sports Tours were excellent from start to finish. I highly recommended taking part in one of their many fantastic tournaments.”
With the tournament only a couple weeks away make sure to keep an eye on the blog here to see how the Irish group get on in their respective groups.
