29 Jun Cherry Orchard return from EFCO Tournament in Austria
DB Sports Tours are excited to announce details of Cherry’s Orchard’s recent trip to the EFCO Tournament. The EFCO Tournament (European Football Children Organisation) is a football tournament which Cherry Orchard’s under-9 side took place in last week, June 22-24.
The tournament took place in Salzburg, Austria, with the tournament first taking place in 2015. The tournament grew from strength to strength, and now hosts an array of Europe’s top clubs including Manchester City, AFC Ajax and Borussia Dortmund.
This year’s tournament was another excellent opportunity for the cream of Irish schoolboy football to take on Europe’s youth elite against aforementioned opposition. Cherry Orchard were placed in Group B, alongside MSK Zilina, Kapfenberger SV, FT Stanberg 09 and SV Donau.
The Dublin schoolboy side eventually finished 3rd in their group, winning one match and drawing one of their four matches played, losing the other two despite playing commendably. The Dubliners started with a 3-0 defeat to MSK Zilina, and followed it up with a slender defeat this time, a 1-0 loss to Kapfenberger SV.
Fortunes began to change however, with Cherry Orchard following successive losses up with an end-to-end 3-3 draw with Austrian outfit SV Donau. Their final game meanwhile was the cherry on top for the weeks and months of hard work leading up to this football tournament, with Cherry Orchard’s under-9’s beating FT Stanberg 09 3-0 in a comprehensive performance.
DB Sports Tours Head of Operations Darren Scully spoke effusively about the upcoming tournament for Cherry Orchard later this week: “This football tournament is an example of our hard work here at DB Sports Tours, looking to continually strengthen Irish youth football through exposure and competition against Europe’s elite clubs and players”.
If you would like to organise your team play in a similar tournament one of our reps in our Dublin office would love to speak to you about any possible opportunities arising. You can of course visit this section of our website, outlining different tournament and football tours.
