Boston Boys Travel to Barcelona

DB Sports Tours are elated to tell you news of two Boston based youngsters who travelled all the way to our international academy in Spain, last month. The two boys, Joseph & Diogo, travelled from Boston USA to join their fellow US players in our international academy from Feb 13th – Feb 20th.

The two boys, 11 & 12, who hail from Boston, Massachusetts, play for Strikers , spent a week at our academy at the Futbol Salou Sports Complex in Barcelona.  The addition of the boys brought our US player numbers to 5 .  2 from Boston, 1 from Kentucky, 1 from Connecticut and 1 from Nevada.

The accommodation was set at the picturesque Cambrils Resort.  Joseph and Diogo took part in our Catalan Elite USA road show in November last year and both highly impressed the Catalan Coaches over the weekend.

As many will know, DB Sports Tours specialise in the creation and execution of sports tours and team trips, with the key objective of player development and fun for all players who attend. One of our most popular team trips is that of the Futbol Salou camp in Barcelona, Spain.

The International Academy is headed up by Albert Vinas and his host of pro license coaches and looks to develop the key tenets of the Catalonian way of football, seen today in the world famous FC Barcelona team. Vinas, who has previously coached at RCD Espanyol and is the current Director of CE Futbol Salou sports complex and Smartfootball methodology.

On day one the boy’s met Albert and where shown around the Cambrils complex’s many facilities, including football fields, basketball courts, cafes, dining halls and more. The next day, Feb 14th, was when the real action begun.

On day two they went on a tour to Barcelona. They visited the Camp Nou stadium and the club museum, revelling in over a century’s history for the world famous club. The took a trip around La Rambla, before heading back to the Camp Nou wherein they got to witness Lionel Messi, Neymar and co put Celta Vigo to the sword as La Blaugrana won 6-1.

By day three it was finally time to train. First there were some essential lessons on injury prevention, before one vs. one drills, tactical drills, and technical drills. This, essentially, looks to create a rounded footballer, where they can think about the game with a new, broader perspective.

Over the rest of the week, they partook in similar classes each day, but with something new each session, and a rotating schedule that included some rest time at the resort every day. On Tuesday and Wednesday there was one notable occurrence; getting to see Crystal Palace practice and taking pictures with the players.

On the final day Joseph reflected upon his week at the Futbol Salou Camp: “Overall I learned a lot there and it was a lot of fun. I hope I can get another chance to go there.”

Players Information
Joe
Joe is now in his 2nd season with strikers United. A tenacious player with excellent technical ability and an eye for goal. Can play in numerous positions, but enjoys playing centre forward most. Joe is a popular member amongst his teammates, and always shows an excellent attitude towards soccer. He is a scholar of the game and an easy player to coach. Neymar is Joe’s favourite player. Favourite teams Barcelona and the New England Revolution

Diego
Diego is a terrific centerback who possesses leadership, strength, and technical ability. Diego is one of the most coachable players I have ever come across and his positive attitude has resinated throughout our team. He has the ability to play in most positions, but is comfortable sitting at the back as he reads the game well, has good positional sense and is aware and alert to danger from the opposition teams. He has a great personality always smiling and just want to play the game.
