13 Jul Bohs U-15’s Place 3rd at Mare Nostrum
Bohemians U-15 outfit finished 3rd at the fabulous Mare Nostrum Summer Cup. The Dublin club flew out to Barcelona last month and played at fantastic Futbol Salou Sports Complex, based in Salou, Spain.
The Mare Nostrum football tournament is a youth football tournament which is held bi-annually: both around the Easter holidays, and also during summer. Bohs U-15’s left for the tournament on June 28, while matches were played on June 29-30, and they then departed back for Ireland on July 1.
Th tournament serves a variety of age groups for boys (U-8 to U-19), and girls U-19, but it was only Bohs U-15’s representing Ireland at this year’s tournament which hosts approximately 200 youth football teams each summer from across Europe.
Accommodation for the boys was the picturesque Cambrils Park Resort, located in Salou, easily accessible from Barcelona and Reus airports. The tournament was held in the aforementioned Futbol Salou Sports Complex, our European football base.
The complex itself is headed by Albert Vinas, previously of RCD Espanyol among others, who looks to implement a high-intensity possession based football philosophy, which he calls ‘Smartfootball’. This however would be more specifically looked into at our Futbol Salou Team Tour, which can be checked out in detail here.
DB Sports Tours Head of Operations Darren Scully spoke exclusively to our blog about Bohs upcoming trip to Spain for the Mare Nostrum Summer Cup: “It’s great to have Bohemians represent Ireland at this years tournament, Bohs are a very reputable club here in Ireland and i’m sure will represent us well in Spain”.
